15 killed in Central Philippine floods


A family with seven members was killed by floods after their house was destroyed when severe flooding caused by incessant rains hit large parts of Tacloban city in central Philippines since last night.
The dzMM said the floods made rescue efforts of the local government difficult using heavy equipments to access Barangay (Village) Kabalawan near the San Juanico Bridge.
Vehicles such as 6x6 trucks could not even reach the affected areas and rubber boats were necessary but there was no mention if such boats were immediately available.
Five other people perished in another village, Nula-Tula, due to the bad weather condition.
Authorities said that three other unidentified people died in Leyte.
Rescue forces had been dispatched to deal with the disaster in the southern part of the province.
Classes had been suspended in the provincial capital following the calamity.
