The scheduled increase in fare for the Light Rail Transit (LRT lines 1 and 2) and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT 3) will not occur this year, said the transportation department in Manila.
The fare increase will happen on the first three months of next year as announced by the transportation department on Friday.
Due to time constraints for its implementation, the department has decided to postpone it for 2011. It will take about two months for the train officials to discuss the fare increase, conduct public hearing, and implement.
Fare rates could shoot up between PhP20 and PhP30 (US$0.46-0.67) depending on the distance traveled.
