Electronic Pickpocketing

The electronic technology never fails to amaze us. Everyday we hear news of the latest developments in computers, mobile phones, communications, robots, etc.

Notwithstanding the good side of this technology is the bad side. We have heard of hackers and identity thefts right and left.

Now, check out this new form of theft--the electronic pickpocket.
Thieves have leveled up the way to steal credit and debit cards, and passport information without having to physically take away your card and passport.
All it needs is your absent-mindedness and a half-a-minute-rub to your bag to rob off your data. This is particularly worrisome when in a crowded place, an e-robber can swiftly swipe you off.
The new threat centers around the so-called Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID), which is supposed to make payment transactions easier and faster.
Here are some facts:
1. Credit card info swiped with off-the-shelf scanner.
2. Estimates place nearly 140 million customers at risk.
3. WREG On Your Side Investigators says card companies downplay the threat.
In the attached 4-minute video, you will see how easy it is to steal those vital card and passport information such as your name, card and passport number and their expiration date.
Oh, it looks like we are in for another wild ride.
