Hospitals inflating fees to face insurance delisting

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) said that 41 of the 52 hospitals in the Cordillera region, north of Manila, could face possible dis-accreditation if they repeat augmenting the bills of their patients.
The PhilHealth issued the warning upon their discovery that about 80% of the hospitals in the region violated the conditions of their membership with the insurance firm.
Some of the 119 cases with gross violations include enlarging the claims and breach of warranties.
Most public and private hospitals extended the period of stay of their patients in order to collect higher fees from the corporation.
The insurance firm reported 105 cases of breach of warranties in 2009 and 75 cases as of November 2010.
