US Naval officer jumps to death in Manila after wrongly accused for drugs

A US serviceman committed suicide by jumping from a ten-feet high stairway at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila where he was wrongly arrested for possession of illegal drugs on Monday.
Lt. Cmdr. Scintar B. Mejia was accused for smuggling out a plastic sachet of suspected cocaine where he was brought to the airport police before his flight to Los Angeles.
Laboratory results released on Tuesday showed negative results for dangerous drugs.
While in custody of police, Mejia requested his escort police if he could relieve himself in the comfort room, which was occupied.
Begging the cops of his need, he was granted to relieve himself outside the building.
It was during the time when Mejia ran off towards the door and jumped to his death at ten-feet high stairway hitting his head to the ground. He died at the San Juan De Dios Hospital from head trauma.
US embassy officials were informed of the incident. The police were ordered to conduct an impartial investigation of the case.
